To Zelda

by Shoshanna

Warnings, if any exist, are here.

The years, the lonely years since first I swore
I would not live in safe and unearned peace
While other worlds cried out for release.
And on my home, myself, I shut the door.

I knew that exile was the price I'd pay
For lending out my courage and my hand;
I paid, as Auron willed, her stern demand
And from my home, my twin, I turned away.

I've lived among the headblind for so long
Where friendship only shows in voice and touch-
They'll never know how little and how much
A true communion is: a thought, a song.

And now you touch me, faint, a whispered breath;
And all that I can share now is your death.
